Prep softball roundup: Tigers head to 3AA-North semifinals
MORRIS -- Morris/Chokio-Alberta moved into the sub-section playoff semifinals with two victories on Tuesday.
The Tigers defeated Minneota/Canby/Lincoln HI 7-0 in the Section 3AA sub-section opener, then knocked off Marshall 9-1 in Tuesday' second game.
The Tigers, now 16-3 overall, play Pipestone in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday in Marshall.
MCA pitcher McKenzie Van Batavia was too much for MCLHI in the first game, allowing just one hit and two walks in six innings while striking out 11.
Holly Amundson and Nicole Strobel both had two hits for MCA.
Van Batavia was almost as impressive in the second game, limiting Marshall to six hits while striking out six.
The Tigers tore open a close game with a seven-run fifth inning.
Six Tigers had hits, led by Brooke Johnson, who was 2-for-4.

ALEXANDRIA -- Ottertail Central won its 10th straight game and ended Minnewaska's 13-game winning streak and season by edging the Lakers 4-2 in the 6AA-West sub-section semifinals Tuesday.
The Lakers finish their season at 18-3 overall.
Ottertail Central took a 1-0 lead into the sixth when they got a home run from Carly VanWatermulen and two base hits and a walk brought for the third run.
Minnewaska rallied in the bottom half with four straight singles for two runs, but that's all it would manage against Ottertail starter Shaina Underchill.
Madison Phillips took the loss for the Lakers, going seven innings and allowing four runs on nine hits.

Paynesville got home runs from Sam Dahl and Megan Schaefer but lost a 12-9 slugfest to Little Falls in the Section 6AA-East semifinals Tuesday.
The Bulldogs finished their season at 9-9 overall.
Dahl led off the game with her home run, but Little Falls came right back in the bottom of the first with a three-run shot from Jamie Jenks.
The two teams traded big innings with Paynesville putting up five in the third and Little Falls getting five in the fourth and three in the sixth.
Little Falls came out on top, touching up losing pitcher Megan Schaefer for nine runs in three innings.
Dahl was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a home run.
Kayla Schaefer had three hits and two runs and Megan Schaefer had a three-run homer in the third inning.

MURDOCK -- Top-seeded Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg rolled to two five-inning wins Tuesday to open the Section 3A-North playoffs.
The Fighting Saints upended No. 8 Lac qui Parle Valley 11-1 in the first round behind a seven-run fourth inning before blanking No. 4 Renville County West 17-0 on Erin Haglund's one-hitter.
KMS will meet Edgerton, the South's No. 2 seed, on Saturday in Slayton at 1 p.m. to open the double elimination portion of the 3AA bracket. The winner's bracket final will follow at 2:30 p.m. while an elimination game will also be played at 2:30 p.m. The other 1 p.m. game Saturday features Dawson-Boyd and Lakeview.
Erin Haglund took a no-hitter into the fifth before Liz Dyrssen hit a pinch-hit single with one out in the fifth. The KMS senior struck out eight without issuing a walk.
Haglund got plenty of support as the Saints pounded out 13 hits and scored 16 runs in the first two innings.
Courtney Olson went 4-for-4 and highlighted a 10-run second with her seventh home run of the season. Olson doubled twice and knocked in four runs. Brielle Hauge and Lyndsay Jorgenson each added two hits with Jorgenson driving in three runs.

A 2-1 game turned into an eight-run lead for KMS in the fourth after 12 Saints visited the plate to manufacture seven runs. Sacrifice flies from Erin Haglund and Courtney Olson in the fifth invoked the 10-run rule.
Sam Dunn didn't walk an Eagle and struck out four while giving up five hits in a complete-game performance in the pitcher's circle. At the plate, Haglund, Olson and Ellen Johnson had two hits each.
Mackenzie Clark had two of the Eagles' five hits.

Lexi Bakker walked, stole second and then third and romped home on a passed ball. Morgan Zaske followed with a gap triple and rushed home on Nora Kronlokken ground ball.
Cassidy Fransen got the win pitching 4Xc innings of 4-hit relief. Two runs off her were unearned.
