Prep softball roundup: Willmar splits at Fergus Falls

FERGUS FALLS — Willmar softball split a pair at Fergus Falls on Thursday in Central Lakes Conference action.

The Cardinals won the first game 6-3 with the win going to Heather Horning. The senior flinger walked 1 and struck out 4. Both teams had 6 hits. All three Fergus runs were unearned.

Mackenzie Hastad and Leah Ruter had two hits apiece for the Cardinals.

In game two on the chilly evening, Willmar pumped out 5 runs in the first inning but would fall 12-8, outhit 12 to 8.

Ruter took the loss allowing 10 hits over 5 innings of work.

Jordan Martins, Ruter and Sara Stadem each had 2 hits, one of Stadem’s a triple.

MURDOCK — The KMS softball ran its record to 6-0 with a sweep of Dawson-Boyd in a Camden Conference doubleheader on Thursday.

In game one, Kalli Forsell had two hits and drove in two runs to support winning pitcher Sam Dunn, who also drove in a run.

In game two, Erin Haglund two-hit the Blackjacks. She didn’t issue a walk and struck out nine.

Haglund also doubled twice and drove in two runs. Courtney Olson had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.

The Saints play next at Minneota/Canby in a doubleheader that begins at 4:30 p.m.

MACCRAY and the Eagles traded 6-run innings but the Wolverines capped the offensive fireworks with a 5-run fifth while LQPV piled up just 3 runs in the bottom of the frame.

Winning pitcher Jen Sommers poked a solo homer and Molly Friese supplied 3 hits. For the Eagles, Morgan Thole and Mikaela DuFrane each had 3 hits.

The Sting fell behind 7-2 in the early going only to push across 6 runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull out the one-run win, the second straight victory for Yellow Medicine East.

Danie Roden and Megan Odegard both lashed 2-run doubles in the uprising. Allie Trudel relieved Jordan Glad in the fourth and game away the winner after four innings of non-hit pitching.

Grace Robinson had a pair of hits for Renville County West. Starter Molly Elliot sustained the fourth-inning damage; Molly Fransen threw three strong innings of relief.

Paynesville took advantage of four errors by Morris/Chokio-Alberta, scoring 3 unearned runs off Tiger starter Mckenzie Van Batavia in the first three innings.

The Bulldogs (5-0) also scored 3 in the seventh inning, capped by a double by Allie Stanger.

Megan Schaefer pitched for Paynesville and struck out 4 in four scoreless innings.
