The Cardinals' high finish among eight teams was accomplished without a first, or even a second or third place. Rather, it was their depth that propelled them.

"It speaks to the overall strength of this team," commented Willmar head coach Carl Shuldes. "We didn't have many best times [10 individual, 1 relay] but the girls were all very close to their bests while swimming very well."

Willmar had two fourths: Alycia Holwerda in the breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay of Rose Jackson, Marin Fischer, Liz Gorans and Kennedy Holwerda. Haley Mottinger in eighth led the Willmar diving brigade.

Litchfield earned three first-place ribbons: junior Marissa Warren won both the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke and sophomore Anika Ellingson the 100 yard breaststroke. The Dragons placed sixth as a team.

Marshall, which placed seventh, won three events. Hutchinson won two relays and individual events, including diving.
