Prep Tennis Roundup: Willmar blanks Marshall

WILLMAR -- The Willmar Cardinals secured their first 7-point sweep Monday at the high-school courts.

Xiaodan Yu, Gabie Bierbaum, Bailey Hovland and Maddy Oehrlein made it 4-for-4 at singles.

The doubles points came from Heather Horning/Kassy Linbo, Carlee Bach/Leah Ramon and Abbey Weiler/Anja Baumgarn.

The Cardinals have two Central Lakes matches this week -- today at Brainerd and Thursday vs. St. Cloud Apollo.

Litchfield prevailed in a couple of three-set matches at the top two singles positions to post a 7-0 non-conference sweep of Redwood Valley Monday.

Alissa Holmgren lost the first 6-3 at 1-singles before upending Redwood Valley's top singles player Katie Ellingworth 6-3, 6-0. Rachel Fredman also rebounded after losing the opening set at 2-singles 6-2. Fredman then gave up just one game in the second set before outlasting Abby Schmidt 9-7 in a third-set tiebreaker.

The Dragons (7-8) won the other five matches in straight sets, including Kaity Johnson's 6-0, 6-0 victory at 3-singles.
