The Cardinals (1-0, 2-0) opened the season Monday with a win over New London-Spicer in a cold, harsh wind. Tuesday's conditions were better, with temperatures getting past 40 degrees and a lot less wind.

Jim Neis, at 1-singles, and Trent Fader, at 2-singles, both won close matches to help the Cardinals take three points in the four singles matches.

"There were a lot of competitive matches, especially at 1- and 2-singles," said Willmar coach Loren Holter. "Those were good wins for both Jimmer and Trent."

Neis beat Andrew McAllister 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) and Fader topped David Sanderson 6-4, 6-4.

Also winning for the Cardinals were Mitch Fader at 3-singles, Chris VanDoren-Ryan Sheehan at 1-doubles and Matt Horning-Aaron Sagedahl at 2-doubles.
