WILLMAR -- Emily Minnick punished the ball for 20 kills and Willmar made just two service errors as the Cardinals defended their home court for Homecoming Week by upending St. Cloud Tech 25-18, 25-12, 21-25, 25-16 Tuesday in a Central Lakes Conference match.

Minnick, Allie Roehl, Anne Dunham, McKenzie Hastad and Riley Grussing all had 2 ace serves for the Cardinals, who had lost 4 of their last 5 matches.

"Our serving was really consistent and our offense was really good," said Willmar coach Traci Grussing. "Riley put up a lot of hittable balls and we hit well."

Minnick misfired just five times in 37 attacks and Leah Ruter followed with 9 kills, Hastad 8 and Dunham and Dani Rosen had 5 each. Grussing had 43 assists in 97 sets.

Dunham and Minnick also had 4 ace blocks.

Roehl led the defensive scheme with 13 digs, while Ruter and Hastad added 10 each.

"Overall we played well, but we lost our focus in the third game," added coach Grussing. "They realized they kind of screwed up, but they got their heads back in the game and started out well in the fourth game."

Willmar, now 4-3 in the CLC and 4-5 overall, travels north Thursday to take on Sauk Rapids.
