CHANHASSEN -- Willmar started out well in each game, but the consistency from Chanhassen was too much for the Cardinals as the Storm collected a 25-15, 27-25, 25-11 non-conference win Monday.
"We started out really well and were ahead by at least four (points) in every game, but we just gave up too much during the middle (of the games)," said Willmar coach Terrin DeBoer. "They played consistently hard."
A solid passing game allowed the Cardinals (1-4) to run a respectable offense as Katie Lippert and Emily Minnick each had seven kills in a balanced attack. Lindsay Atchison added another five kills. Riley Grussing had 21 assists in directing the offense.
Minnick also collected 6 of the team's 14 ace blocks. Atchison followed with three.
"They are a very good defense team," said DeBoer. "It's just a matter of consistency for us as we have a long week. We didn't want to take any steps backward (against Chanhassen) and I think we did that tonight."
Willmar is at Central Lakes Conference rival Alexandria today and hosts Sartell in another CLC match on Thursday.
