Prep Volleyball: CMCS sweeps up Wabasso in to 3A North semifinals

MARSHALL -- Central Minnesota Christian won for the 9th time in its last 10 matches Friday to advance to the Section 3A North semifinals as the Bluejays swept Wabasso 25-18, 25-22, 25-22.

CMCS will now meet top-seed Minneota (26-3) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the RA Facility on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. Minneota swept the Bluejays earlier in the season during a Camden Conference match.

Kari Blom put away 11 kills while Mary Covert, Kristin Slagter and Alexis Scott added nine more each to ignite CMCS (22-8). Nicole Brouwer had 38 set assists to direct the offense.

MACCRAY rallied to win Game 4 29-27, but in the fifth game the Wolverines' rally from a 14-10 deficit was thwarted by the No. 3 seed Blackjacks (20-6).

Ashley Dirksen had 19 kills in 77 attacks, Brooklyn Gould put away another 15 kills and Aleah Schwitters added 49 set assists and 13 kills for MACCRAY (13-14-1). Gould also had 37 digs while Emily Orwick had five ace blocks.

The No. 4-seeded Braves evened their record at 12-12 with the opening-round win and will now take on top-seeded and top-ranked Marshall on Tuesday in the sub-section semifinals.

Emma Peterson led the charge Friday with her 20 kills and seven ace serves. Alexa Nissen added eight kills, Shyanne Himley five kills and Beth Erhardt three ace blocks for Benson.
