Prep volleyball: Grussing sets team mark in Cards’ loss

COLD SPRING — Willmar’s Riley Grussing set the school’s career set assist record but that was about the only highlight coming out of the Cardinals’ Central Lakes Conference match at Rocori on Thursday.

The Spartans sent out a big lineup against Willmar and downed the Cards 25-15, 25-19 and 25-11.

“(Rocori) blocked a lot of our shots and we didn’t cover our hitters very well,” said Willmar head coach Traci Grussing. “It was hard to find an open spot on the floor when we were hitting.”

Riley Grussing finished with 18 set assists. She needed 4 to surpass the school record of 1,763 set by Alyssa Dahl.

Dani Rosen led the Cards with 6 kills and McKenzie Hastad and Leah Ruter both had 4. Rosen also had 3 ace blocks.

The Cardinals play it their seven-team tournament this weekend.
