Prep Volleyball Roundup: Montevideo outlasts CMCS in 5

MONTEVIDEO — Montevideo and Central Minnesota Christian School set the stage for their seasons with a back-and-forth five-setter on Thursday, the Thunder Hawks winning 3-2 at Montevideo High School.

Montevideo won the season-opener for both teams 25-18, 16-25, 25-13, 13-25 and 15-10.

Alexis Schmitz led Montevideo with 14 kills and Natalie Feldhake had 8.

Feldhake also served 4 aces and tied Schmitz for the team lead with 3 blocks. Tori Kuhlmann had 23 set assists for the T-Hawks.

CMCS’ Lexi Scott and Mary Covert both finished with 10 kills, and Christine Mikelson, Nicole Brouwer and Kalley Schwitters all served 2 aces.

Nicole Brouwer had 29 set assists and Natalie Brouwer had 6 blocks. Scott had 4 blocks and Schwitters led the Wolverines with 34 digs.

Litchfield sweeps SC Cathedral in season opener

ST. CLOUD — Setter and right side hitter Teegan Wyffels and outside hitter Tasha Stubeda played strong games to lead Litchfield to a 3-0 win over St. Cloud Cathedral in both teams’ season-opener on Thursday.

Litchfield prevailed 25-22, 26-24 and 25-22.

The Dragons play next at Kimball at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
