WINTHROP -- Montevideo stayed alive in Section 3AA-North with an upset over No. 2 seed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 25-23, 26-24, 25-20 on Tuesday in Winthrop.

The No. 6 T-Hawks (11-12-3) will face No. 1 Marshall at 7 p.m. Thursday in Granite Falls.

Ashley Hoehne paced Montevideo with 18 kills. Rhea Melby added 6 kills and 1 ace serve, and Nettie Duvall had 5 kills and 2 service aces.

Setter Tori Kuhlmann was nearly perfect, nailing 123 of 124 sets with 24 assists.

No. 1 seed Marshall overpowered No. 4 Benson in a 25-13, 25-12, 25-10 victory, ending the Braves' season.

Marshall now has 24 wins on the season, all but three of which were completed in sweeps.

Section 6AA-South

ANNANDALE -- Litchfield beat New London-Spicer for the second time this season as the Dragons advanced to the Section 6AA South final Tuesday.

Litchfield swept NLS in three games on Oct. 2 during a Wright County Conference match and on Tuesday it posted a 25-18, 16-25, 25-16, 25-15 win.

Statistics for Litchfield were not provided at press time Tuesday.

The No. 2-seeded Dragons (17-12) will now take on top-seeded Dassel-Cokato, another conference rival, on Thursday at Sauk Rapids H.S. at 8 p.m. in the sub-section final. D-C (21-7) beat Litchfield in four games in the Chargers' regular-season finale.

Taylor Thunstedt had 10 kills and Sydney Stone put away another nine for NLS (12-16). The two, along with Jess Johnson, also had two ace serves each.

Springfield 3, BLHS 1

Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart thwarted a Springfield sweep with an overtime win in Game 3 but that was all the Mustangs could muster against a 26-win team in the Section 2A-North semifinals on Tuesday.

Mikayla Paulson led the Mustangs with 18 kills and teammate Ashley Tintes had 20 of her team's 33 set assists.

Paulson and Carley Klabunde both had two solo blocks and Klabunde also served up two aces.

The Mustangs finished the season 13-16-1.

BOLD 3, MVL 1

The BOLD volleyball team will play for the Section 2A-North championship after Tuesday's four-game win over Minnesota Valley Lutheran.

The Warriors won 25-12, 19-25, 25-19 and 25-20.

They will play Springfield, which eliminated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart, at 6 p.m. Thursday at New Ulm High School.

BOLD, which has won eight of its last nine matches, ended Minnesota Valley Lutheran's winning streak at eight matches.

Baylie Kubesh played well, finishing with 15 kills, 9 set assists and 5 total blocks.

Section 3A-North

Minneota 3, CMCS 1

Central Minnesota Christian's upset bid started well with a victory in Game 1, but a strong Minneota team made sure the Bluejays' hopes were dashed quickly.

The top-seed Vikings dropped the first set but overwhelmed CMCS after that, winning 18-25, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-19 in the Section Section 3A-North semifinals.

The Vikings (27-3) play Dawson-Boyd for the section championship at 7 p.m. Thursday at the RA Facility on the Southwest Minnesota State campus in Marshall.

CMCS finished a solid season 22-9. The Bluejays had won won seven straight and 9 of its last 10 matches entering the Minneota match.

Minneota also swept the Bluejays on Sept. 20 during a Camden Conference match. All three of the Vikings' losses have come against Class AAA programs.

Section 5A-West

The BBE volleyball team ran its winning streak to six games with a three-game victory over Bertha Hewitt in the Section 5A-West semifinals on Tuesday.

The Jaguars (24-7) defeated B-H 25-14, 25-20 and 25-8. They play Upsala for the section title at 6 p.m. Thursday in Pierz.

BBE has won eight of its last nine matches, and on Tuesday the Jaguars' relentless attack was too strong for B-H.

Kayla Braegelman had 11 kills, Taylor Braegelman had 10 and Becca Gruber finished with 8.
