Prep volleyball roundup: Willmar blanks Sartell

SARTELL -- Emily Minnick pounded down 20 kills in 27 hits to highlight the Willmar Cardinals' 25-23, 25-16, 26-24 victory at Sartell on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-1 senior middle swipe connected on deliveries from setter Riley Grussing, who finished with 35 assists.

Allie Roehl pace the defensive play with 18 back-row saves plus a steady night on serve-receive.

Outside hitter McKenzie Hastad served for 6 aces with just one error while playing a "Good overall game," said her coach Traci Grussing.

"Our team blocking was excellent," added Grussing. "Sartell was persistent getting the back."

Minnick and Rosen, a 6-foot sophomore, combined for 9 ace blocks.

Willmar improved to 3-1 in the CLC (3-3 overall); Sartell is 2-3, 4-6.

After falling in the opening game, the Jaguars held Holdingford (0-2, 5-5) to a combined 30 points in Games 2 and 3. BBE, No. 7 in Class A, then edged the visitors by three in Game 4 to improve to 2-0 in the conference and 8-2 overall.

Hailey Braegelman (27) and Mariah Rach (22) combined for 49 assists to direct BBE's attack. Miriah DeKok added 8 kills.
