Prep Volleyball: Sabres cut down Willmar in five

WILLMAR — In a long struggle before a Parents Night crowd, the Sartell Sabres outlasted (barely) the Willmar Cardinals 25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 25-17 and 18-16 on Tuesday in Central Lakes volleyball.

“We were up and down,” said coach Tracy Grussing. “From brilliant to bad.”

Dani Rosen struck at the net for 21 kills with 9 errors in 53 attacks. Jennie Magnuson hit on 24 of 27 with 15 putouts.

Leah Ruter, who supplied 9 kills, was all over the back line with 34 digs. Riley Grussing had 51 helpers.

Willmar is at Rocori, which is vying with Alexandria for first place, on Thursday before hosting an eight-team invite with six area teams on Saturday.
