Zach Lueders recorded his 75th career win with a pin at 132 pounds and five other Cardinals won by fall in a 64-6 win over the Eagles.

Lueders, a senior, pinned Apollo’s Brett Kirchner in 3:11 to record his milestone victory.

Clay Carlson (106), Austin Miley (138), Estevan Navarro (145), Travis Deegan (152) and Matt Hennes (220) also won via pins.

Logan Walkow (126) and Vaughn Johnson (182) also picked up big victories, said Cardinals co-head coach Ed Oehlers.

“Obviously, we knew we would probably win the match, but Walkow’s 2-1 win over Peter Nelson was big,” Oehlers said. “Vaughn had a good battle going on early but then he just dominated. He’s wrestling really well right now.”

The Cardinals last won the CLC outright with a 6-1 record in the 1997-98 season. A win over Alexandria next week would pretty much assure them of the title, Oehlers said.

The Cardinals finished in a three-way tie with Fergus Falls and Little Falls in 2011. Their last undefeated CLC season was 1989-90.

“That would nice,” he said of winning the outright title. “We haven’t done that in awhile.

Willmar is now 3-0 in CLC duals and 7-0 overall while the Eagles fell to 1-4 in the CLC and overall.

The Cardinals wrestle in the nine-team Monticello Duals Tournament on Saturday, opening their four-dual schedule against Farmington.
