Prep wrestling: Cardinals win dual-meet debut

ST. CLOUD — Willmar started off its dual-meet schedule with a Central Lakes Conference victory over St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday.
Cass Herzog’s pin at 285-weight class pumped up the final gap to 49-30.
Nate Mittag collected a big win at 132 when he won a decision, 4-2, over one of the Eagles’ stalwarts Matt Braun.
Apollo got back-to-back pins from 2012 state runner-up Mitch Bengtson at 138 and state champion Grant Nehring at 152.
Willmar lost a tough match to Apollo a year ago. The Cardinals only other conference loss was on the road to Brainerd.
The Cardinals will try to avenge that defeat on Thursday when they host the Warriors on 1998 Alumni Night.
