NEW LONDON -- The New London-Spicer wrestling team started strong but was overwhelmed in the middle weights and lost a dual meet between state-ranked teams on Friday.


Jackson County Central, the top-ranked team in Class A, won eight of the final nine matches to defeat New London-Spicer 40-22.

New London-Spicer, ranked No. 5 in Class AA, got pins from Jakob Stageberg (103 pounds), Oden Rogers (113) and Corbin Schwartz (132) to stake the Wildcats to an 18-6 lead.

But the Huskies middle-weight wrestlers rolled up five straight wins and 22 points to take control of the match at 28-18.

NLS' Tanner Tobkin won by major decision at 182 pounds to pull the Wildcats within six at 28-22, but the Huskies then won the final three matches.
