Prep wrestling: KMS drubs Cardinals, Warriors at BOLD Triangular

OLIVIA — The Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Fighting Saints took a pair of victories on Tuesday at the BOLD Triangular.
The Saints, ranked No. 5 by the Guillotine in Class A, belted Willmar 48-20 and then the Warriors by a 56-15 score.
In the opening 5 p.m. match, BOLD won 6 of the last 7 matches to overtake Willmar 38-34.
In that match, two forfeits plus mat wins by Logan Walkow, Nate Mittag, Austin Miley and Eli Gunderson put the Cardinals up 28-6.
Chaz Roush ignited the BOLD rally with a technical fall at 152. A Willmar forfeit made it 28-18 and then Alex Hatch, Manuel Garcia and Trevor Nissen muscled pins and Joel Erickson an 11-9 win over Vaughn Johnson, the dual’s most exciting match.
Cass Herzog, Willmar’s 280-pound heavyweight, stopped the run but too late with a first-period pin over 200-pound freshman Chris Carnes. Herzog remains undefeated in 17 matches.
KMS rolled over Willmar with six straight wins starting at 152, two on forfeits with Willmar’s line-up weakened by illness to three starters.
Jacob Engler, at 113, scored a pin and a major for KMS; Jorge Munoz-Pederson at 220 supplied a pin and a decision.
