Prep Wrestling: NLS, Litchfield advance in 6AA

NEW LONDON -- Albany forfeited eight weights and New London-Spicer won five of the six contested matches to roll into the Section 6AA semifinals with a 67-3 win over the Huskies Tuesday.

Chase Austvold earned the lone pin for the No. 2-seeded Wildcats as NLS was given 48 points when Albany forfeited at 120, 138, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220 and 285.

NLS will meet No. 3 Becker in the semifinals Friday at 6 p.m. in Litchfield. The championship will follow at 8 p.m. No. 1 Foley and No. 4 Litchfield meet in the other semifinal at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Jakob Stageberg won a major decision at 106 while Oden Rogers at 113 -- in overtime -- Ben Henle at 126 and Cameron Steffen at 145 earned decisions for NLS.

Litchfield 51, Dassel-Cokato 19

Tyler Jones at 126 and Devan Nelson at 132 had back-to-back pins to give Litchfield a 19-4 lead. Derek Fruetel opened the dual by earning a 14-4 major decision at 106 for the Dragons.

Jake Kalkbrenner at 145, Austin Jones at 160, Derek Celander at 170 and Max Kaping at 220 also had pins for the Dragons. Also getting a major decision for Litchfield was Nathan King at 182 and Walker Kaping at 195.

Section 3AA

No. 1-seed Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley beat Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 49-32 and No. 2 Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta clipped Montevideo 39-29 in the North sub-section Tuesday in Dawson to advance to the section semifinals.

DB/LQPV will meet Adrian, the South's No. 2 seed and MAHACA faces South No. 1 Windom/Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin in Friday's semifinals at 6 p.m. at the Marshall High School. The winners will meet in the final at 8 p.m.

No. 3 Montevideo drubbed Redwood Valley 52-18 in a play-in match Tuesday to reach the quarterfinals.
