Prep wrestling roundup: Cards 4th, ACGC 2nd at Hutch

HUTCHINSON — Willmar placed fourth and had two wrestlers place first, and ACGC took second with two first-place finishers on Saturday at the Hutchinson Invite.

Willmar’s Austin Miley won at 126 and Juan Resendez won at 113 with one pin.

“We wrestled very well,” Willmar head coach Ed Oehlers said. “Six out of seven teams were ranked. For us to place fourth and have that many guys in the finals and that many guys place is pretty good.”

ACGC’s Larry Bomstad (145) and Logan Peterson (152) won championships and three other ACGC wrestlers placed second, leading the Falcons to a second-place finish at the Hutchinson Invitational on Saturday.

Prior Lake won with 235 points and ACGC finished with 203 points.

Willmar scored 151 points and finished fourth behind third-place Jackson County Central (166.5).

Willmar next plays Tuesday at Brainerd, and ACGC hosts New London-Spicer on Tuesday.

Benson Invite

KMS wrestlers placed first in 10 weight classes and the Saints easily won the Benson Invitational on Saturday.

Benson was second and Fergus Falls placed third.

Fergus’ Abram Aho won the 195-pound class and was named the tournament’s MVP.

The Quad County wrestling team placed first at the Staples-Motley Don Dravis Duals on Saturday.

Quad County defeated Aitkin 32-24, Kimball 45-29 and Sartell 36-30.

Colten Specht at 126 pounds won his 60th career match against Sartell, and Ethan Thien (120), Wyatt Hatch (160), Hayden Johnson (170), Brian Bratsch (195) and Zach Fischer (285) all were 3-0 in the tournament.
