Prinsburg man airlifted after hunting accident
WILLMAR -- A 30-year-old Prinsburg man was airlifted Friday to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of a self-inflicted gunshot wound sustained in a hunting accident.
According to Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Sgt. Steven Marquardt, Steven Slagter was hunting pheasants with a family member and two friends in a waterfowl production area in Section 27 of Edwards Township. The area is several miles southeast of Raymond.
Responding emergency personnel found Slagter with a gunshot wound to his lower right leg. He had placed a tourniquet on the leg to control bleeding, according to Marquardt's news release. Slagter was attempting to make his way through heavy cover when the gun went off.
The incident is under investigation by the sheriff's office.
Assisting were the Raymond ambulance and fire department, Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad, the paramedic unit from the Willmar Ambulance Service and North Air Care.
