Quentin Marks April 18, 1930 - June 10, 2013
OLIVIA - Quentin Marks, age 83, of Olivia died Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia. Mass of Christian Burial is Friday 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with Rev. George Schmit as celebrant. Burial with military rites is in the church cemetery. Visitation is Thursday 4-8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia. Visitation continues Friday at the funeral home from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the donor's choice.
Quentin Francis Marks was born April 18, 1930 at Lake Lillian, MN to Frank and Margaret (Gehrt) Marks. While growing up at Lake Lillian he attended country school. Quentin graduated from Olivia High School in 1950. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 and was stationed in Korea. After his discharge he returned to Olivia. Quentin married Kathleen Rose Fox on August 6, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island. They lived in Bird Island for a few years and then resided on their farm north of Olivia for many years. Quentin and Katie moved into Olivia in 2010. Besides farming Quentin also worked several years at the Pioneer Research Station in Willmar and also Steffel Meat Processing for many years. Quentin was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church where he had ushered and served on the maintenance committee. He was also a very active member of the Bird Island American Legion Post 430 where he assisted with the honor guard at many funerals and Memorial Day Programs. Besides farming Quentin enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards and mowing grass.
Quentin is survived by his wife Katie Marks of Olivia, his seven children: David (and Doris) Marks of Dayton, Cindy (and Rick) Fliss of Matthews, NC, Michael (and Debra) Marks of Bird Island, Nancy (and Dennis) Becker of Minneapolis, Barbara Losing of Willmar, Brian (and Barbara) Marks of Bird Island, and Janelle (and Rob) Tausend of Mandan, ND; his 16 grandchildren: Nathan Marks, Molly Marks, Michelle Fliss, Danielle Fliss, Seth (and Ellen) Olson, Rachel Mens, Andrew (and Lisa) Marks, Camille Becker, John Becker, Joseph Becker, Amanda Losing, Jason Losing, Samuel Marks, Maxwell Marks, Alexis Tausend and Abigail Tausend; his eight great-grandchildren; his siblings: Betty (and Roger) Bossert of Fort Mohave, AZ, Frankie (and Delores) Marks of White Bear Lake, Tom (and Jan) Marks of Elk River, Cheryal (and Howard) Monnens of Burnsville, Pam (and Milo) Jacobson of Olivia, and Karen (and Greg) Johnson of Willmar; and his sister-in-law Elaine Marks of Danube. Quentin was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Julie Marks, his sister Ina Mae Botsford and his brother Jerome Marks
