Willmar likely will travel to either Waconia or Marshall on Tuesday for the quarterfinal round of the Section 2AAAA playoffs. Seeding order won't be finalized until after Marshall plays Brookings, S.D., today.

Willmar played without Jordan Smith, its leading receiver, a starting safety and the place-kicker/punter. The senior sat out this game and will miss the first round of playoffs due to a rules violation.

The Eagles (2-5, 3-6) jumped out 21-0 before Willmar got on the board with an Alec Saunders-to-Taylor Filipek hookup covering 13 yards.

That made it 21-6 at intermission.

Apollo added two more scores in the third quarter for a 28-point lead.

Senior tight end Justin Pierskalla got his first varsity touchdown with under 15 seconds left in the game on a 12-yard pass from Mark Dunham.

It was Willmar's third straight loss and finished the CLC 2-5 for ninth place.

Filipek finished with five catches for 92 yards.

Defensively, Saunders was in on 10 tackles, Adam Fagerstrom and Patrick Schueller nine each and Cody Stegeman eight.

Sacks were registered by Chris Duscher, Elijah Nash, Schueller and Ben Barnes, who also had a fumble recovery.
