WILLMAR -- The Kandiyohi County Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste facilities have teamed up with the Recycling Association of Minnesota to offer rain barrel and compost bins for sale at a reduced cost.

The barrels and bins can be ordered at www.recycleminnesota.org.

The pre-ordered items can be picked up May 7 at the Kandiyohi County Recycling Center in Willmar.

The rain barrels are priced at $69, a $100 savings over the regular manufacturer's price of $169. The compost bins will be sold for $55, a savings of $50.

Both prices include the cost of shipping and handling.

The costs of the bins are kept low due to the combined purchasing power of combining orders for all of the Minnesota communities conducting the sale.

Composting grass clippings and vegetable scraps can save money in trash disposal and be used as a mulch and fertilizer for plants.

The rain barrels, which include screens to prevent the spread of mosquitoes, have spigots that make it easy to transfer rain water to hoses or watering cans.

For more information, call the Kandiyohi County Recycling Center at 320-231-3587.
