Raymond D. Puchalski Feb. 9, 1933 - April 16, 2009

BENSON -- Raymond Delano Puchalski, 76, of Starbuck, formerly of Benson, died Thursday at St. Cloud Hospital.

The service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Benson. Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the church and one before the service at the church. Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson is handling arrangements.

He was born Feb. 9, 1933, in Herman to Otto and Fern (Gepner) Puchalski. He grew up in Danvers and moved in, at age 12, with his uncle, Hugo, and worked on his farm. He also worked at Quinns in Benson before joining the U.S. Army and serving during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. He also served in the U.S. National Guard for 32 years.

He married Barbara Baumgarten on Aug. 21, 1954, in Benson. He worked at Baumgarten Produce in Clontarf, at the National Guard Armory as a custodian, was owner of Ray's Roller Rink and drove school bus for many years. He received his GED in 1978.

He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Benson and served as a Sunday school teacher and on the church board. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and served on the Clontarf City Council and Clontarf Fire Department.

He is survived by his children: Vicky (and Randall) Christenson of Benson, Debbie (and Douglas) Kavanagh of Murdock, Pam (and Greg) Vadnais of Maple Grove, Julie Puchalski of Starbuck, and Cheryl (and Tom) Johnshoy of Starbuck; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 10 siblings: Jim Puchalski of Buffalo Lake, Ed (and Betty) Puchalski of Kalispell, Mont., Beverly (and Butch) Hoffman of Holloway, Patty (and Norman) Baker of Willmar, Mary Ellen Hoefer of Benson, Ruth Ann Cleary of Benson, Helen (and Dick) Lee of Benson, Otto "Butch'' (and Ellen) Puchalski of Benson, Joyce (and Jack) Verch of Pennock, and Shirley (and Tom) Razink of Clontarf.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1996, one grandson and two infant siblings.
