Ray worked for Marvin Stensrud until he entered the United States Army on December 11, 1944. He served his country until his honorable discharge on November 13, 1946. He then returned home to farm.

He spent some time at the Clarkfield Care Center and was at the Granite Manor at the time of his death. Ray loved to shake dice, play cards, watch Nascar and be with his family.

He passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the age of 91 years and 11 months. He is survived by his four children: Michael (Karen) of Willmar, Bruce (Elaine) of Maynard, Luanne (Greg) Knutson of Fargo, ND, Lori (Tom) OConnor of Granite Falls and special friend Carol Beck.
