RCW freezes administrative pay
RENVILLE -- Administrators in the Renville County West School District have accepted a freeze in pay for the 2009-10 school year.
The School Board approved the pay freeze for the superintendent, two principals and the coordinator of education services at a meeting Tuesday, said Superintendent Lance Bagstad.
Bagstad said he is in the last year of his contract, and the other administrators were at the end of theirs. He's not sure of the exact savings, because some of the contracts were expiring, he said, but it should save the district several thousand dollars.
"Every dollar helps," he said. "We need to do what's best for the district."
The district made $280,000 in budget cuts this year.
The School Board also met with financial advisers to discuss options regarding the district's $800-per-pupil operating levy, which will expire after this year. The board has not decided yet whether to ask the voters to renew that levy or to ask them to approve a different amount.
The board also approved paying for a portion of the time of art teacher Tammy Isfeld this summer as she supervises a school-wide mural project in the Renville school. All grades in the district will attend school in the Renville building next fall.
Bagstad said a grant from the federal economic stimulus bill will provide funding for the district to hire a number of young people for summer jobs. Some will be painting the mural with Isfeld, and others will be helping move elementary equipment from Sacred Heart to Renville.
