Four arrested after meth lab found in Lowry, marijuana purchased in Starbuck
STARBUCK -- Four people were arrested on drug charges after two separate search warrants were served Wednesday and Thursday by law enforcement agents in Lowry and Starbuck.
According to the West Central Minnesota Narcotics Task Force, Travis Dean Ryks, 27, and Randall Scott Nemec, 44, both of Lowry, were arrested after task force agents, the Pope County Sheriff's Office and the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigated an active methamphetamine lab in a wooded area near the Prairie Lakes Coop in Lowry.
Ryks and Nemec had been seen coming and going from the location just prior to officers locating the lab. Ryks was located leaving the area in a vehicle and officers attempted to locate Nemec, but were unable to locate him. Nemec was arrested without incident on Thursday.
The lab was cleaned up by officers and a search warrant served on a home along the 400 block of Florence Street.
Both men face first-degree controlled substance charges for manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of substances with intent to manufacture methamphetamine.
Officers also arrested two people, Ryan Emmit Moore, 34, and Staci Emma Erickson, 27, of Starbuck, after serving a search warrant Thursday on their home along the 200 block of West Broadway Street in Starbuck.
Officers had purchased marijuana from the residence on prior occasions and found multiple bags of marijuana, a scale and cash from drug sales.
Both Moore and Erickson face fifth-degree drug sale charges.
The Starbuck Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff's Office and State Patrol helicopter also assisted in these cases.
NEW LONDON -- A Verizon Pantech Jest 2 messaging telephone was reported stolen at 2:39 p.m. Thursday from the New London-Spicer Middle School.
WILLMAR -- A woman told police that she had received a counterfeit $20 bill from an ATM machine at Bremer Bank. The incident was reported at 3:19 p.m. Thursday.
WILLMAR -- A resident in the 100 block of Becker Avenue Southwest reported hearing four gunshots at 12:45 a.m. on Friday near Highland apartments.
MORTON -- The Renville County Sheriff's Office is investigating a burglary and theft of computers that took place Wednesday at Dakota Wicohan, a facility in Morton dedicated to preserving the Dakota language.
According to a news release, the building was forcibly entered and numerous laptop computers and other items were taken.
