Fuel tanks stolen from boats in Meeker, Wright counties

LITCHFIELD -- The Meeker County Sheriff's office is investigating the theft of fuel tanks from boats in the Dassel, Watkins and Grove City areas.

According to Sheriff Jeff Norlin, the boat owners report that the fuel line has been cut and the entire fuel tank with gasoline has been taken. Most of the thefts have occurred when the boat is parked in the driveway or on the property of the owner but not in a lake or on a lift.

The thefts are believed to be occurring during the early morning hours. There is some delayed reporting, as often the boat has been parked or otherwise out of the lake and the owner is not aware of the fuel tank theft until the next time the boat is needed, or moved.

The Sheriff's Office is working with the Wright County Sheriff's Office who has been experiencing the same type of thefts.

Norlin reminds citizens to think of security when storing boats and other valuable property. When storing items outside, closer to a residence is better, under a lighted area is best, and asking neighbors to help keep an eye out for suspicious activity are all helpful in deterring criminal activity Finally, report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.

He was sentenced to 365 days in jail, with 45 days to serve and 320 days stayed, a $3,000 fine, with $2,250 stayed and two years of probation. Roberts was also ordered to pay $844.62 in restitution.

The charge was filed after Willmar Police were called to Tradehome Shoes in the Kandi Mall on May 9. A store official reported that an internal investigation showed that Roberts had been making fraudulent returns and that Roberts had admitted to keeping the money from the returns.

n Tyrese Thomas, 34, of Willmar, made his first appearance on a second-degree drug sale for alleged selling crack cocaine to a CEE-VI Drug Task Force informant in a public housing zone.

Unconditional bail was set at $50,000. His next appearance is Nov. 19.

According to the complaint, an informant told a CEE-VI agent on Jan. 25 that he could buy crack cocaine from Thomas for $200 at the Highrise building along the 300 block of Seventh Street Northwest. The location is a public housing zone.

After the sale was complete, the informant turned over 1.9 grams of crack cocaine to the agent and identified Thomas as the man who sold it.
