Rural Grove City house
burns, cause undetermined
GROVE CITY -- The cause of a fire that burned a rural Grove City residence Wednesday afternoon is under investigation by the Meeker County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshal's Office.
According to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin, the Grove City Fire Department was dispatched around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to a house fire at 52252 343rd St. in Union Grove Township.
The caller reporting the fire saw flames and a large amount of smoke coming from the west side of the residence. Upon deputies' arrival, the west side of the house was on fire and it was spreading up the exterior wall into the upstairs and attic.
The Eden Valley and Paynesville fire departments were called to assist, along with the State Fire Marshal.
The house is owned by Janet Smiglewski of Grove City, and is considered a total loss. Nobody was inside the residence at the time of the fire.
WILLMAR -- A burglary was reported around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday along the 1000 block of 17th Street Southwest.
NEW LONDON -- A burglary was reported around 11:15 a.m. Thursday along the 3100 block of 195th Avenue Northeast.
WILLMAR -- The theft of a wallet and checkbook was reported around 3:50 p.m. Wednesday. Police took the report at the Law Enforcement Center.
WILLMAR -- Two people were arrested for theft around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday for shoplifting at Runnings, 3130 First St. S. The theft included approximately $135 in merchandise.
WILLMAR -- The theft of a 1974 Chevy pickup was reported around 4 p.m. Wednesday from the Willmar Airport property, 6600 15th Avenue Southwest.
WILLMAR -- A 55-year-old man was arrested on charges of driving while impaired around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday along the 300 block of 14th Street Southeast.
