Pickup struck and flipped in hit-and-run

WILLMAR -- A woman escaped injury when her vehicle was struck and flipped over at the intersection of Lakeland Drive Southeast and U.S. Highway 12 in Willmar at 1:10 a.m. Saturday.

The other driver fled the scene on foot.

Mandy Sundin, 20, of Kandiyohi, was driving a 1997 Dodge pickup west bound on Highway 12 when she entered the intersection on a green light, according to accounts given to police by witnesses.

A 2000 Mitsubishi heading south on Lakeland Avenue struck the rear side of the pickup, causing it to flip.

The Mitsubishi was disabled, and witnesses said a male fled on foot. The owner of the vehicle called law enforcement later to say he had been out-of-town and did not know who had the vehicle.

Sundin was wearing her seat belt, according to the accident report by the Willmar Police Department.

Unoccupied vehicle found in frozen pond

SPICER -- A vehicle was discovered Saturday with its front end buried in the ice-covered water of a small pond west of Spicer at the intersection of Kandiyohi County Roads 9 and 10.

The driver's window was open and the passenger side door was open on the 1998 Cadillac. It had been spotted by a passerby at around 6 a.m.

It appears the vehicle had vaulted about 50 feet after leaving the roadway before landing with its nose in the water.

The owner of the vehicle told investigators that he had been at Zorbaz in Spicer the night prior and was not driving the vehicle. He reported that his keys to the vehicle were missing, and said he did not recall giving them to anyone.

Man lying in ditch taken to crisis

SPICER -- A resident reported finding a man lying in a ditch late Saturday on the 86000 block of 71st Street Northeast Spicer.

The 18-year-old man initially told responding officers that he had been kidnapped and that he did not speak English. He was taken to crisis when it was determined he had not been kidnapped and spoke English.

BB-gun used to vandalize windows

WILLMAR -- A BB-gun was used to vandalize windows Saturday at Willmar Public Library and two parked vehicles.

The owner of the of the cars discovered the damage at 6:47 a.m. while the vehicle was parked in the Rice Memorial Hospital lot.

A resident of the 300 block of Fifth Street Southwest discovered that two windows of a parked vehicle had also been shot.

Juvenile apprehended

WILLMAR -- Police officers gave chase to four juveniles for violating curfew at 12:02 a.m. Saturday near Bethel Lutheran Church downtown.

One of the youths was apprehended and questioned by officer.

Trailer found in ditch

BELGRADE -- A 10-foot enclosed trailer holding sound equipment was found in a ditch and unhitched Saturday near the intersection of 270th Avenue Northeast and 107th Street Northeast.

Cash stolen

WILLMAR -- A woman who left her wallet in the bathroom at Willmar Public Library reported $100 in cash was stolen from it.

The 56-year-old woman reported she left the wallet in the bathroom around 11:45 a.m. Saturday and returned to the bathroom an hour later.
