Wire insulation found in illegal dumping incident near Litchfield

According to the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, an illegal dumping incident was reported around 3 p.m. Jan. 18 along the east ditch of County Road 34 about three miles north of Litchfield.
The responding deputy found what appeared to be at least 100 feet of insulation that had been removed from thick copper electrical wire. It appeared someone used a knife to cut the insulation and peel the protective layer from the wire. The investigation revealed that the multi-strand wire was suitable for underground use and is often used to provide electrical power between an electric meter and the circuit box.
There was a cardboard spool with the discarded insulation and it appears this was new wire that was stripped out for the copper.
