Teen dies in collision with semi driven by Hector man

CROOKSTON — A 16-year-old boy from Fertile died when his sport utility vehicle collided around 3 p.m. Tuesday with a semi driven by a Hector man.

According to the State Patrol, Cody W. Christianson, 16, of Fertile was driving a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero southbound on Highway 32 that crossed the center line and collided with a 2003 Freightliner semi driven by Brain L. Doehling, 39, of Hector.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the accident.

‘Gallon smashing’ comes to Willmar, police may charge perpetrators

WILLMAR — The viral craze of “gallon smashing” — young people smashing gallon containers of milk or juice in stores, falling in the resulting mess and then posting the video footage of the incident on social media sites — has come to Willmar.

Willmar Police have received reports of “gallon smashing” instances at local stores and are reviewing the store surveillance footage for possible charges, for theft and property damage, against the perpetrators, according to Police Chief David Wyffels.

The police department may also ask citizens to help identify the smashers by posting the images on Facebook, he noted.

Theft

SPICER — The theft of a television was reported around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday along Miller Street.

Arrest

SPICER — A 20-year-old man was arrested around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday after sheriff’s deputies were called to Miller Street regarding property damage.

Assault

WILLMAR — Willmar Police responded to an assault report around 3 p.m. Tuesday along the 1300 block of Gorton Avenue Northwest. Two 12-year-old girls had an altercation after they left the school bus.

WILLMAR — The assault of a 51-year-old woman was reported around 8 a.m. Wednesday at Rice Memorial Hospital. The assault allegedly happened at a downtown Willmar location.
