Montevideo man faces assault charges in stabbing
MONTEVIDEO — Montevideo Police say David Medellin Jr., 18, of Montevideo was arrested over the weekend for felony assault in connection with the stabbing of a 22-year-old Montevideo man on the 200 block of Seventh Street South in Montevideo.
Police were called at about 8:28 a.m. Saturday to the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital for a report of a patient who had been brought to the hospital with a stab wound to the chest. The victim was eventually interviewed and police learned the location of the assault.
A search warrant was executed at the residence and Medellin was arrested. Police Chief Adam Christopher said Sunday evening that a Montevideo police sergeant interviewed Medellin who admitted to stabbing the victim after an altercation at the residence.
Also arrested at the residence for felony controlled substance crime (methamphetamine possession) was Brittany Jo Beecroft, 21, of Montevideo.
Police said David Medellin Sr., 39, of Montevideo and Corey Ronald Radunz, 18, of Clara City were both also arrested on probation violation arrest warrants at the residence.
Christopher said exact medical condition of the victim is not being released. Police officers were assisted by Chippewa County deputies.
Hector man is burglary suspect
HECTOR — Hector Police Chief Patrick Callahan reports that an adult male from Hector has been identified as a prime suspect in a series of recent residential burglaries. Evidence was located and collected from the crime scene.
On Feb. 13, Hector Police officers collected evidence from a burglary at a Hector residence. On March 25, police responded to another residential burglary of a garage in which the suspect stole cash from a vehicle. Evidence was located and collected from the crime scene.
Further investigation led to the identity of a possible suspect. A search warrant was executed by Hector Police and the Renville County Sheriff’s Office at the suspect’s Hector residence.
Evidence linking the suspect to both burglaries was recovered. Multiple felony level charges are anticipated upon the review of the Renville County Attorney’s Office. The release of the suspect’s identity is pending the formal criminal complaint.
Callahan encourages all Hector residents to continue to report any suspicious activity by calling 911 immediately.
Hector man in serious condition after pursuit and crash
OLIVIA — The Minnesota State Patrol said Cody A. Kirgiss, 22, of Hector was seriously injured after a pursuit and crash on U.S. Highway 212 near Olivia Saturday night.
The patrol said Olivia Police were checking on a driving complaint north of Highway 212 on 11th Street North shortly after 7 p.m. After locating the suspect vehicle, a 2001 Chevy Venture driven by Kirgiss, Olivia Police began pursuit of Kirgiss westbound on Highway 212.
A Renville County sheriff’s deputy had stopped his squad car, a 2013 Ford Taurus with emergency lights activated, in the eastbound lane of Highway 212 at 21st Street. Eastbound traffic to the rear of the squad car had stopped.
Kirgiss, still traveling westbound on Highway 212, crossed the centerline and struck the squad car head-on. The squad car was unoccupied at the time and was pushed into a 1993 Ford pickup, driven by Wallace Lundquist, 64, of Blomkest, that was parked on the eastbound shoulder.
The Kirgiss vehicle rolled onto its right side and caught fire. Kirgiss sustained severe head trauma and was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Lundquist was not injured, the patrol said.
The state patrol was assisted by Sacred Heart Police Department, Renville Police Department, and Olivia Fire Department and Medical.
HAWICK — Two 16-foot steel gates were taken from property located in the 20000 block of County Road 9 near Hawick. The theft was investigated by the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office Saturday.
WILLMAR — Willmar Police investigated the theft of a cell phone from a residence in the 200 block of August Avenue Southwest.
Also, police investigated a burglary at a residence in the 800 block of Ella Avenue Northwest where an air compressor and electric drill were taken.
