Vehicle crash with fatality in St. Joseph Township
Marcella Cheeley of Cold Spring, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department reported.
She was traveling west on Minnesota Street in a 1991 Chevrolet Corsica and attempting to make a left turn on to County Road 2.
A 1984 Mac R model semi-tractor driven by Aaron Birr, 58, of Eden Valley, and hauling a heavy load of sand, struck the driver’s side of the Corsica. It slid into the west side of the ditch. The semi-tractor tipped over and lost its load.
Birr was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance.
The St. Joseph Police Department, State Patrol, and St. Joseph Fire and Rescue also assisted with the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
Wallet found, but unclaimed
WILLMAR — A good Samaritan found a wallet containing a driver’s license and debit card, and turned it over to Trav’s Dino Mart on First Street, near where it was found on Tuesday.
As of Thursday, no one had claimed it despite by efforts by the business to contact the bank and the person identified on the driver’s license.
Willmar Police were able to contact a family member of the individual to pick it up.
Intoxicated drivers need ride
PENNOCK — Two males drove a vehicle with a flat tire into the driveway of a rural Pennock residence and sought a ride to a Raymond address shortly before 8 a.m. on Thursday.
The two males appeared intoxicated and there was grass and other signs on the vehicle indicating it had been in a ditch.
When things go thump in the garage
WILLMAR — A rural Willmar resident heard a loud noise in his garage on the 3300 block of 30th Avenue around 6:41 a.m. Thursday and went boldly to investigate with phone in hand and a Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s dispatcher on the line.
The caller told dispatchers he wanted them on the line while he investigated. He soon reported that no other help was needed as he discovered that the noise was caused by something falling off a shelf.
Investigate squatter report
WILLMAR — Police investigated a report that a man may have been illegally residing in a garage that is part of an apartment complex.
A mattress, flat screen TV, and signs that a light in the garage had been hard wired were reported on Thursday evening at the property in southeast Willmar.
Grove City woman to HCMC after rollover crash
GROVE CITY — A 50-year-old Grove City woman was taken by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center after a one-vehicle rollover crash around 11 p.m. Wednesday southwest of Grove City.
According to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, Jodie Whitcomb was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer and lost control while crossing the intersection of 515th Avenue and 260th Street, causing the vehicle to roll into the ditch and Whitcomb to be ejected from the vehicle.
Whitcomb was alone in the vehicle. The crash is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
Also responding were the Gold Cross Ambulance, Life Link Helicopter and Grove City fire and rescue departments.
