PENNOCK — The Pennock and Willmar fire departments were called around 8:30 a.m. Sunday to 4211 25th St. N.W. for a garage fire.
- Kayla Nichole Dahl, 28, of Kerkhoven, pleaded guilty Monday to a felony charge of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
Sentencing was set for Jan. 17.
The charge, along with misdemeanor charges of fleeing on foot, driving after revocation and theft, was filed after May 11, when a Willmar Police officer on routine patrol around 1 p.m. received an attempt-to-locate call on a white car that had stolen gas from the Casey’s General Store on 19th Avenue.
The officer, who was at the city impound lot along Industrial Drive, saw a white car drive by and pulled out to follow it. The car, whose driver was later identified as Dahl, accelerated, then turned eastbound onto Trott Avenue, then south on 15th Street before turning and going eastbound on Minnesota Avenue. The driver parked the car and ran away, with the officer catching her as she ran between houses.
Dahl admitted to stealing gas, a total of $40.11, and to fleeing because she didn’t want to go to jail and miss a visit with her child. Her driver’s license was revoked because she was charged with having no proof of insurance in August 2012.
