This is the records summary for Feb. 18. Snow problems keep authorities busy WILLMAR –– Local law enforcement responded to dozens of reports of vehicles stuck in snow banks and minor accidents Monday morning after several inches of heavy, wet snow blanketed the area.
Roads were reported to be in difficult or fair driving condition over much of west central Minnesota throughout the day, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Some area schools were two hours late and a few, including Willmar, New London-Spicer and BOLD school districts, closed for the day.
Plows were busy clearing highways and city streets as people were trying to get to work but there were numerous reports filed with the Willmar Police Department and Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office from motorists seeking assistance after their vehicles got stuck.There were also a number of fender-bender accidents in the city of Willmar and reports of rollovers and vehicles going off the road on area highways, including incidents on U.S. Highway 71 north of Willmar and state Highway 23 by New London.There were no serious injuries reported in any of the accidents, including a rollover that was reported at 7:51 a.m. north of Prinsburg on 150th Avenue Southwest.At 11 a.m. a vehicle that was stuck near Foot Lake in Willmar was rear-ended by another vehicle.According to the State Patrol, Jennifer Roach, 41, of Appleton suffered non-life threatening injuries when the 2006 semi-trailer she was driving went into the ditch Monday afternoon on Highway 71 in Jackson County.It was also a bad day for at least one snowplow driver in Willmar. While clearing the parking lot at Roosevelt Elementary School, the plow collided with a Ford Expedition. According to the police report, the trailer hitch on the plow became embedded in the Expedition.
Theft WILLMAR –– Police took a report of an individual pushing a cart full of stolen merchandise out of Walmart. The incident was reported at 6:51 p.m. on Sunday.WILLMAR –– A woman reported Monday morning that a Play Station, valued at $427, had been stolen from a residence in the 400 block of Lakeland Drive.
