This is the records summary for March 20.
Litchfield woman hurt in watery rollover
According to the State Patrol, Debra Decker was driving a 2006 Ford pickup westbound and hit a patch of ice. The pickup spun out and rolled into the ditch, landing upside down in 2 to 3 feet of water.
Passersby attempted to assist Decker and were unable to free her from the vehicle, but were able to keep her head above the water until Hutchinson Fire and Rescue crews arrived and removed her from the vehicle. She was taken by Allina Ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Also responding were the Hutchinson Police and McLeod County Sheriff’s Office.
Meeker County participating in seatbelt, child restraint patrols
LITCHFIELD — The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office along with law enforcement agencies throughout the state will again be conducting enhanced traffic enforcement from March 21 through March 30.
The focus of this enhanced traffic enforcement will be primarily on seatbelt and child restraint violations. The goal of the enhanced enforcement is to reduce the risk of death and serious injuries for those who choose not to wear seatbelts, and increase seatbelt usage.
The Department of Public Safety states that using a safety restraint reduces the risk of death or serious injury in a motor vehicle crash by 40 to 60 percent. Minnesota also has a primary seatbelt law which allows law enforcement officers to stop vehicles simply for not wearing a seatbelt.
Under state law, a child who is both under age 8 and shorter than 4 foot 9 inches is required to be fastened in a child safety seat or booster seat. It is recommended to keep a child in a booster based on their height, rather than their age. Children under age 13 should also ride in the rear seat of a vehicle.
A citation for not wearing a seatbelt will cost the violator more than $100.
