WILLMAR -- Hassan Mohamud, 20, of Willmar was injured when the car he was driving struck a utility pole at 9:56 a.m. Friday near Woodland Centers on Willmar Avenue Southeast. Willmar police said Mohamud complained of chest pains and was taken by Willmar Ambulance to Rice Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police cited Mohamud for instruction permit violation.
WILLMAR -- Two vacant houses in the 1000 block of First Street South were hit with graffiti overnight, according to Willmar police investigations. Graffiti was also reported on the Marco sign in the 100 block of Willmar Avenue Southeast and on a shed in the 1200 block of Pleasant View Drive.
- Theresa Jo Phillipp, 28, of Spicer, made her first appearance Thursday on a felony charge of fifth-degree constructively possessing methamphetamine. Judge David Mennis set unconditional release bond at $20,000 or $2,000 cash. The defendant's next court appearance will be July 27. She was charged after law enforcement officers executed a search warrant on July 9, 2008, at a residence in the 12000 block of County Road 5 Northwest. Officers found miscellaneous drug paraphernalia, $1,557 in cash, and two small bags of meth.
- Andrew R. McCormick, 20, of Montevideo was released on his own recognizance Thursday by Judge David Mennis after the defendant made his first appearance on two gross misdemeanor driving while impaired charges, a misdemeanor charge of driver must carry proof of insurance, and a petty misdemeanor charge of vehicle registration required. His next court appearance will be Sept. 14. McCormick was arrested May 13 on state Highway 23 between 71st Street Northeast and the Spicer city limits. Court records indicated McCormick had a prior impaired driving incident on April 14, 2007, in Chippewa County that resulted in license revocation and a driving while impaired conviction on May 21, 2007.
- Judge Kathryn Smith sentenced Andrei Russell, 24, of St. Cloud on Thursday to serve 36 months at the State Correctional Facility in St. Cloud and to pay $6,033 in restitution after he pleaded guilty in Janury to felony second-degree burglary and felony theft-taking or moving property without consent. Russell was given credit for serving 289 days in jail and was ordered to pay $137 in fine and fees. Eight other charges were dismissed. He was charged with taking four long guns, a loaded handgun and a shotgun from a rural Lake Lillian residence on June 11, 2008. The house was ransacked and other items were also stolen, according to court records.
- Judge Smith stayed imposition of sentence Thursday for William Lee Stene, 20, of Kandiyohi and placed the defendant on two years of supervised probation after he pleaded guilty on June 8 to a gross misdemeanor charge of receiving stolen property. The judge said successful completion of probation will result in a misdemeanor conviction. Stene was ordered to pay fine and fees totaling $337, and was ordered to serve 15 days in jail, with credit given for serving two days. He was charged with receiving items taken from an East Litchfield Avenue home between July 20 and 28, 2007, in Willmar. Court records said five pieces of jewelry and a guitar valued at $1,100 were taken. Records said Stene pawned a ring and the guitar in St. Cloud on July 26. 2007.
