- Joel Garcia, 30, of Willmar, made his first appearance Friday on two felony charges of fifth-degree assault for allegedly assaulting a woman in February 2006.
Unconditional bail was set at $20,000 with conditional release allowed for $1,000. His next appearance is Sept. 8.
According to the complaint, Willmar police received a call on Feb. 26, 2006, from a citizen in Texas that their female relative had called them and reported she was assaulted by Garcia the night before in Willmar. Two officers went to the home and interviewed the woman, who said she had been punched in the head and kicked by Garcia after she refused to hit a child to quiet him. Garcia was later apprehended and taken to jail. He denied assaulting the woman. His criminal history included two convictions in 2003 in Texas for violating a restraining order.
RAYMOND -- A 23-year-old Renville man was arrested for driving while impaired around 11:25 p.m. Sunday along the 100 block of Spicer Avenue in Raymond.
WILLMAR -- The theft of a digital camera was reported around 10;10 p.m. Sunday along the 400 block of Fourth Street Southeast.
SPICER -- A caller reported that someone shot his dog, while children were walking the animal, around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The report came from a citizen along Kevin Drive.
