Unconditional bail was set at $10,000. Conditional release was allowed on his personal recognizance, provided he have no contact with the woman and possess no firearms. The assault charge is a felony because Ahmed has three prior assault adjudications, as a juvenile, in Kandiyohi and Chippewa counties. Ahmed's next appearance is Nov. 16.

According to the complaint, county dispatch received a call around 4:30 a.m. Oct. 15 reporting that a woman had been assaulted by Ahmed. Their vehicle was located in a gas station parking lot, where the woman told officers Ahmed had slapped her at least 10 times in the face. The abuse had allegedly happened after she refused to loan him $400 for a new cell phone. Ahmed, who was also in the vehicle, was arrested at the same location.

Unconditional bail was set at $80,000. His next appearance is Nov. 16. He also faces petty misdemeanor charges for drug and paraphernalia possession.

According to the complaint, a search warrant was executed Thursday on Braness' home in Willmar. Agents found drug paraphernalia, including hypodermic needles; two grams of cocaine; a small amount of methamphetamine; and a 12-gauge shotgun in the home. Braness was also searched, and 8 grams of marijuana was found on his person. He has prior convictions for violation of an order for protection in May 2005 and for fifth-degree controlled substance crimes in February 2005 and September 2007.
