District Court

Kandiyohi County

- Ryan Lee Theel, 27, of Paynesville, made his first appearance Thursday on a felony charge of receiving stolen property for allegedly possessing three motors stolen from a Paynesville business.

Unconditional bail was set at $10,000. His next appearance is Nov. 30.

According to the complaint, Theel also faces a similar felony charge in Stearns County for possessing other items from Premier Motor Company. He pleaded not guilty on June 5 and his next court date is also Nov. 30.

Two Kandiyohi County sheriff's deputies were called Sept. 7 to a rural Willmar residence on a report of stolen property. The resident showed the deputies three motors that had been placed in the yard and covered with sleeping bags. The motors included a Kama diesel, a Honda and a small motor for a weed trimmer, all in excellent condition, with tags on them.

Another person there reported that the motors had been removed from a vehicle the night before and another said that Theel had bought them at Premier.

Theel arrived as the deputies were loading the motors into a squad car. He claimed he had taken them for a relative to fix. When confronted with the fact that they were new, he claimed he was holding them until he got paid for work he had done for Premier.

A deputy contacted the owner of Premier, who positively identified the motors and said Theel didn't have permission to take them. The value of the items was estimated at $1,367.
