Combine driver unhurtin mishap with train
CLARA CITY -- The driver of a farm combine escaped with only minor cuts after a mishap with a train at 2:03 p.m. Saturday one mile east of Clara City.
Arvid Duane Wieberdink, 69, of Clara City, was the driver of the combine. The Chippewa County Sheriff's Department said he did not need to be transported for medical care and only received minor cuts in the collision. Members of the train crew were not injured.
The sheriff's department along with the Clara City Police and Fire Departments responded to the accident.
Motorist falls asleep waiting for train
WILLMAR -- A motorist was given a verbal warning after he fell asleep in his vehicle while waiting for a train at 2:42 a.m. Sunday on Lakeland Drive Southeast near Litchfield Avenue. The 19-year-old man said he had fallen asleep while waiting with other vehicles.
Cited when coming to help
WILLMAR -- A woman who came to pick up a passenger from a vehicle stopped by a Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Deputy was issued a citation and had to find her own ride.
The 29-year-old woman drove to the site at 15th Avenue Southeast and 195th, but the officer determined that she was driving after suspension.
WILLMAR -- Police are searching for the identity of a driver involved in a hit-and-run accident reported at 1:57 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Becker Avenue Southeast and Lakeland Drive.
A 40-year-old man driving a 2006 Ford Focus said his vehicle was struck by a 1995 green Chevrolet Blazer that had gone through a stop sign. The driver of the Blazer abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The driver of the Focus reported neck and other injuries.
WILLMAR -- Willmar firefighters responded to a fire at 10:24 a.m. Sunday at a residence on the 500 block of Seventh Street Northwest but found the fire extinguished when they arrived.
Residents reported smoke was coming from a children's toy box in the living room.
KANDIYOHI -- Firefighters in Kandiyohi responded at 8 a.m. Saturday to clothes dryer fire in a home on the 6000 block of 45th Avenue Southeast.
ATWATER -- Atwater firefighters called for additional volunteers at 5:12 p.m. Friday to help with a clothes dryer fire at a residence on the 18000 block of 75th Avenue Northeast, Atwater.
WILLMAR -- Police are continuing an investigation into the theft of several motor vehicle license plates from parked vehicles last week. The thefts were reported in the area east of the Kennedy Elementary School including the area of Seventh Street Southwest and First Street.
WILLMAR -- A radio and audio equipment including a subwoofer along with CDs and a red, Hoover brand vacuum cleaner were reported stolen Friday evening from a vehicle parked along the 1800 block of South First Street.
WILLMAR -- A Coogi brand, black leather jacket with a gray hood was reported stolen Friday night from Ridgewater College. It has a value of $300.
WILLMAR -- A 20-year-old female reported being assaulted at 6:12 p.m. Friday by two other women outside the Kandi Mall in Willmar. She suffered minor scrapes.
