Man stabs self on a dare
WILLMAR -- Garbriel Estrada, 34, of Willmar, was treated for a non-life threatening injury at the emergency room of Rice Memorial Hospital after apparently stabbing himself on a dare.
Officers responded to the Willmar emergency room after receiving a report of a stabbing injury being treated there at 11:05 p.m. Friday, according to the Willmar Police Department.
Officers determined that the stabbing had occurred a short time earlier at a residence on the 300 block of Augusta Avenue Southeast. Their investigation determined that the stab wound was self-inflicted and that alcohol was a factor in the incident, according to the department.
Shoplifter pulls knife
WILLMAR -- A man suspected by store security of shoplifting pulled a knife but was tackled and held by security officers at the Super Wal-Mart in Willmar until police could arrive.
Security officers held the 20-year-old man from Paynesville after the confrontation occurred around 4:39 p.m. Friday at the store on the 700 block of 19th Avenue Southeast.
The suspect now faces possible charges of second- and fifth-degree assault along with theft.
WILLMAR -- A 27-year-old man is in the Kandiyohi County Jail and facing charges following an accident at 1:16 a.m. Sunday that sent two people to Rice Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Luis Perez Lopez of Willmar was located on foot by police officers and taken into custody after allegedly leaving the scene of an accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and Civic Center Drive in Willmar, according to the Willmar Police Department.
He was driving a vehicle that struck the rear end of another vehicle driven by Luis Melgar, 21, of Willmar. Melgar had three passengers in the vehicle. Two of the passengers, Ingrid Lopez, 22, of Willmar, and Isaur Amaya, 21, of Willmar, were taken by ambulance to Rice Memorial Hospital.
Luis Lopez faces charges of criminal vehicular operation, driving while impaired, no insurance and leaving the scene of an accident.
KIMBALL -- Keith Faber, 34, of Watkins, was reported in serious condition Sunday at St. Cloud Hospital after his car rolled at 11:28 p.m. Friday and went off the road on Minnesota Highway 55 west of Kimball, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Faber was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier and was eastbound on the highway when it rolled.
COTTONWOOD -- Slippery conditions due to snow were blamed in an accident at 8:56 a.m. Sunday that caused severe damage to two vehicles on Minnesota Highway 23 near Cottonwood, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Dale Biever, 77, of Holland was driving a Buick LeSabre when he lost control on the snow-covered roadway and sideswiped a 2009 Chrysler van driven by Jeffrey Frahm, 57, of Marshall.
Both drivers were uninjured.
WILLMAR -- A 21-year-old man was arrested by Willmar police officers responding to a reported domestic assault at 4:09 p.m. Saturday at a residence on the 200 block of Trott Avenue Southeast. A 20-year-old female reported being assaulted.
WILLMAR -- A 19-year-old male suspect faces possible charges of domestic assault, domestic assault with attempted strangulation, and possession of drugs and paraphernalia for an incident reported at 1:10 p.m. Saturday at a residence on the 1200 block of Southeast Dana Drive in Willmar.
WILLMAR -- Police are investigating an incident involving a suspected physical assault against a male and possible sexual assault against a female at an apartment building for Ridgewater College students on 24th Street Northwest, Willmar. Police are investigating incidents that included an altercation around 10 a.m. on Thursday.
WILLMAR -- A resident reported that someone had broken into his apartment and stole $840 in cash and baseball collector cards. The burglary was discovered at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at an apartment on the 1500 block of Becker Avenue Southeast.
NEW LONDON -- An estimated $716 worth of damage was reported to construction equipment located at the 6000 block of Northeast County Road 40. The vandalism was reported Friday.
WILLMAR -- Windows on a Pontiac parked on the 600 block of Fourth Street Southeast in Willmar were broken sometime Friday night, the vehicle owner reported.
WILLMAR -- Gang-related graffiti was discovered Sunday morning on the 300 block of 12th Street Southwest.
