Semi collides with road grader

ATWATER -- A semi tractor and a road grader collided Friday afternoon south of Atwater. There were no injuries, but about 100 gallons of diesel fuel leaked from the semi.


According to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Department, a semi tractor driven by Douglas Oliver Evans, 40, of Sauk Centre and a road grader driven by Virgil Laabs, 64, of Kandiyohi were both going north on County Road 2 around 2:30 Friday.

The semi was in the process of passing the grader at the intersection of County Road 23 as the grader was turning left onto County Road 23.

The front part of the blade struck the side of the semi. There were no injuries and there was minimal damage to the vehicles.

The Atwater Fire Department was called to remove the estimated 100 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled.

Snowmobile accident

MELROSE -- Keith Wensmann, 32, of Melrose, was injured Saturday in a snowmobile accident when he lost control of the snowmobile he was driving and it rolled several times.

According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Department, Wensmann and a friend were riding snowmobiles around 5:50 p.m. Saturday on the state trail in Millwood Township.

When the friend realized Wensmann was no longer following him, he doubled back and found Wensmann face down in the snow near the intersection of county roads 17 and 35.

He was taken to the Melrose hospital and later transferred by Life Link Air Ambulance to the Hennepin County Medical Center.


WILLMAR -- A 29-year-old Willmar man was arrested on his birthday after colliding with a pole Friday afternoon in the 2500 block of Willmar Avenue Southwest. He faces charges of second-degree driving while impaired.


SPICER -- The landlord of a house in Spicer told the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Department on Friday afternoon that a home in the 13000 block of Green Lake Boulevard had been broken into last week. The tenants were reportedly in jail at the time of the incident.

Stolen dog

WILLMAR -- A Willmar woman reported that a pit bull puppy was stolen from her house on Saturday. The three-month-old white pit bull, named Kilo, was wearing a red halter harness. The owner told police the puppy was in the house, located in the 1400 block of Lakeland Drive Northeast, when she left for work. When she returned shortly after midnight, the animal was gone.


WILLMAR -- A 30-year-old Willmar man was injured in a fight early Sunday morning at the Caribbean Night Club, on North Business 71. According to a preliminary police report, at around 1 a.m. the man was hit with a bottle and was bleeding from the mouth and ears. He was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital.


WILLMAR -- A play station was reported stolen at 2:55 a.m. Sunday from a residence in the 300 block of Sixth Street Southeast.

WILLMAR -- A fuel drive-off of $51.89 in diesel fuel was reported at 11:41 Sunday at the Kum and Go, 2550 U.S. Highway 12 E.
