District Court

Kandiyohi County

- Jairo Manuel Medina-Acosta, 25, of Willmar, pleaded guilty Monday to a felony charge of driving while impaired.

Under a plea agreement, another felony for DWI and misdemeanor charges of being a fugitive from another state, driving without a valid license and fleeing an officer on foot will be dismissed. He will be sentenced April 12.

The charges were filed after Dec. 11, when Willmar police were called to the Eagles Club to investigate a report that an extremely intoxicated person was leaving the club in a red pickup.

The officer located and followed the vehicle as it drove around, stopping where there were no traffic controls and making other traffic violations, before following it into a parking lot. The driver, later identified as Medina-Acosta, ran away from the officer and then hid in an alleyway. He was ordered out and was arrested. He was taken to the Law Enforcement Center, but refused to submit to Intoxilyer testing.

Officers later confirmed that he was wanted in Kansas on felony driving while impaired and leaving the scene of an injury crash charges. He has prior convictions in Kansas for driving while impaired in August 2004, February 2007 and August 2008.
