Driver dies in crash in Fairfax

FAIRFAX -- One person died and eight others were injured, one of them critically, in a three-vehicle crash Friday evening at the junction of Minnesota Highway 4 and Highway 19 in Fairfax.

The Minnesota State Patrol said Jason Petty, 39, of Seaforth, the driver of a 2010 Honda Civic, died of injuries suffered in the crash.

Xiong K. Moua, 44, of Eau Claire, Wis., a passenger in a 1999 Toyota Sienna van, suffered critical injuries. The van's driver, 19-year-old See Moua of Eau Claire, Wis., received nonlife-threatening injuries. Also injured were six other passengers in the van: See Lo, 18; Dej Lee, 15; Plau Lee, 5; Chong Lee, 11; Pebtsimmeej Lee, 9; and Nkaujh Lee, 4. All were from Eau Claire.

The third vehicle involved in the crash, a 2007 International semi tractor, was driven by Alvin Suess, 67, of Jacksonville, Ill., who was not injured.

In addition to the State Patrol, the Fairfax Police Department, Renville County Sheriff's Office, Fairfax Ambulance and Fire Department, Franklin Ambulance and Fire Department and Hector Ambulance all were at the scene.

Accident

MAYNARD -- A Maynard woman was treated for minor injuries and released after a one-vehicle crash shortly before 6 p.m. Friday on Highway 277 north of Maynard.

The Minnesota State Patrol said Mable T. Ruesch, 81, apparently fell asleep and her car left the highway, went into the ditch and across 50th Street Northeast.

Thefts

WILLMAR -- A computer monitor and several computer games, valued at a total of approximately $1,000, were missing in a theft reported Friday evening to the Willmar Police Department.

The theft took place at a home on North Eagle Road. Authorities reportedly have a possible suspect.

SPICER -- Eighty dollars in cash was reported stolen Friday afternoon to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office. The money was taken from a purse inside a vehicle in the parking lot at the Camp Sanderson Girl Scout camp on Nest Lake.

Vandalism

WILLMAR -- Willmar police officers were kept busy late Friday night and early Saturday morning, investigating a series of window-smashings of parked vehicles in town.

Four of the incidents happened on the east side of town. In one case, a resident in the 700 block of Third Street Southeast reportedly witnessed a car drive up and someone with a baseball bat get out and proceed to smash the taillights and windows in two vehicles belonging to a neighbor.

Just one block to the west, in the 700 block of Second Street Southeast, another vehicle owner reported a broken window. A trailer parked in the 700 block of Olena Avenue also was damaged.

In a separate incident, a Willmar resident reported a broken windshield early Saturday morning. The vehicle had been parked in the 400 block of 15th Avenue Southwest. Three windows also were smashed in a car in an employee parking lot at the Jennie-O Turkey Store Plant 4 on 30th Street Southwest.

Arrests

WILLMAR -- Two suspects were arrested early Sunday morning after Willmar police officers were alerted to someone with a shotgun at the Dana Heights apartment complex. Police recovered a weapon and arrested two men, a 20-year-old from Willmar and a 35-year-old from Austin. Pending charges include disorderly conduct and possession of a firearm in a public place.
