- Jose Torres Flores, 33, of Renville, made his first appearance Monday on a felony domestic assault charge for allegedly punching a woman Saturday morning in Willmar.

Unconditional bail was set at $20,000 with conditional release allowed for $5,000. His next appearance is Aug. 16.

According to the complaint, around 6:30 a.m. Saturday a Renville Police Department officer was called to a home in the city. The officer arrived to find a man, identified as Flores, and a woman in the driveway of the home. The man was attempting to block the woman from getting away from him. The officer separated them and learned from the woman that they had been to a party, where they had argued, and that they had left the party and stopped at a Willmar gas station, where they argued some more and he allegedly punched her in the head. The woman said the incident happened around 5 a.m. She had a bump on her forehead. Flores was arrested.

Flores has two prior convictions for assault, both in Renville County, in December 2004 and December 2008.

- Jonathan Roy Mead, 22, of Willmar, pleaded guilty Thursday to a felony charge of criminal damage to property for damaging a sport utility vehicle on April 2.

As part of a plea agreement, a misdemeanor charge of motor vehicle tampering was dismissed. He will be sentenced Sept. 13.

The charges were filed after April 2, when Willmar police officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Litchfield Avenue Southwest regarding suspicious noises. A man there reported that someone had smashed the window of his vehicle. Pieces of glass were found on the ground, with dents in the side of the vehicle. The mirror was also damaged.

Officers located Mead nearby and discovered that he had glass fragments embedded in the soles of his shoes. He claimed the fragments came from a broken plate in his apartment, but wouldn't allow officers into the apartment.

Several witnesses identified Mead as the person who damaged the vehicle. The estimated cost to repair the vehicle was $2,068.81.
