Man taken to hospital after intersection crash
WILLMAR -- A Willmar man was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital by ambulance after a two-vehicle crash around 4 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Charlotte Street and Minnesota Avenue Southeast.
According to the crash report, Robert Travis, 56, was eastbound on Minnesota Avenue in a 2009 Dodge pickup that collided with a 1999 Dodge Intrepid driven by Alfredo Jaquez, 32, of Willmar. Jaquez' vehicle was southbound on Charlotte Street.
Jaquez faces charges including no driver's license and no insurance. He was arrested on an unrelated warrant.
Man to hospital after vehicle leaves roadway near McDonald's
WILLMAR -- A 20-year-old Willmar man was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital by ambulance Saturday afternoon after the vehicle he was driving hit a curb, a fence and a tree before crossing a city street and striking a utility pole.
According to the crash report, Abdinoor H. Abdi was driving a 1998 Oldsmobile sport utility vehicle and was exiting McDonald's via the exit onto Second Street when the crash happened.
He was cited for violating his instruction permit. Abdi was wearing his seatbelt.
Garage burns in Darwin, teen allegedly admits to playing with matches
DARWIN -- A 14-year-old boy allegedly admitted to playing with matches and starting a fire that burned a garage Friday afternoon in Darwin.
According to a news release from the Meeker County Sheriff's office, dispatch received a 911 call around 4:20 p.m. Friday regarding a garage on fire at 123 Second St. N. in Darwin.
The Dassel Fire Department extinguished the fire and the 14-year-old was interviewed by a deputy and the assistant fire chief. He allegedly admitted to playing with matches shortly before the fire happened and said that he thought he put the fire out, but admitted to burning a cardboard box in the northwest portion of the garage, where the fire appeared to have started.
The owner of the property, Harvey Riebe of Darwin, estimated the garage value at $10,000. The renter estimated between $3,000 and $4,000 in property inside the garage was damaged.
WILLMAR -- The theft of tools and equipment from a construction trailer was reported around 8 a.m. Monday along the 900 block of Willmar Avenue Southeast.
WILLMAR -- The theft of a portable DVD player and DVDs from a vehicle was reported around 5:40 p.m. Sunday along the 700 block of 17th Street Southwest.
WILLMAR -- Slashed tires on a vehicle were reported around 6:45 a.m. Monday along the 700 block of Third Street Southwest.
SPICER -- A 64-year-old Spicer man was arrested on charges of driving while impaired around 7:15 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of East Calhoun Road and County Road 98.
- Rodney Gene Vega, 38, of Willmar, pleaded guilty Friday to an amended charge of second-degree drug sale for selling 12.5 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant.
As part of a plea agreement, the charge was reduced from first-degree. He was ordered held until his Nov. 1 sentencing.
Vega was charged after selling 12.5 grams of meth to the informant as part of two buys, for 2.7 grams on Nov. 5, 2008, and 9.8 grams on Nov. 25, 2008.
