Man arrested after injury crash on Trott Avenue

WILLMAR -- A 30-year-old Willmar man was arrested on charges of driving while impaired after a two-vehicle crash around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Trott Avenue and Ninth Street Southwest.

According to the crash report from the Willmar Police, Juan Capir Ruiz was driving a 2001 Ford south on Ninth Street, failed to stop at the stop sign and struck a westbound 1993 Eagle Vision driven by Sahane Ali Bare, 44, of Willmar.

Bare and a passenger, Ugbad Sadiq Hash, 37, were taken by ambulance to Rice Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Another passenger, Abdinoor Hussein Adbi, 20, was not hurt.

According to court records, Ruiz appeared in district court Thursday morning on two gross misdemeanor charges of driving while impaired, plus misdemeanor charges for failing to yield right of way and driving without a valid license.

Unconditional bail was set at $12,000 with conditional bail allowed for $1,300. Ruiz's next appearance is Nov. 29.

According to the reports filed by responding officers, Ruiz submitted to a preliminary breath test at the scene and had a 0.18 blood-alcohol level. He was arrested and taken to the law enforcement center. Two breath tests there showed BAC readings of 0.223 and 0.214. Because the results varied, Ruiz was asked to submit to a urine test. The sample was sent to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for analysis.
