- Mainor Roberto Sanchez, 24, of Willmar, made his first appearance Monday on a felony charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct for having a sexual relationship with a then 14-year-old girl.
Unconditional bail was set at $200,000. His next appearance is Dec. 20.
According to the complaint, a man reported in July 2009 that he suspected a 14-year-old girl was having sex with a 24-year-old man. The man had been suspicious of the girl's boyfriend and said a neighbor had witnessed someone climbing into the girl's bedroom window. The man had confronted the girl, who had confessed to having a sexual relationship with the boyfriend, whom she knew as "Juan Espinoza" who also goes by the name "Chayanee." She thought he was 18 years old.
Investigators interviewed the girl, who said she had had sex multiple times with the man since January or February of 2009. The girl provided a photo of her lover.
The photo matched a state Department of Motor Vehicles photo of Sanchez and the girl also picked the DMV photo in a photo lineup prepared by investigators.
The charges were filed in October 2009. The complaint also notes that officers went to Sanchez' residence, where another man identified him, but said that he was from Honduras and in the country illegally.
Court records also show that Sanchez was arrested around 5:30 p.m. Friday along the 500 block of 19th Avenue Southeast on misdemeanor charges of giving a false name to a peace officer and driving after suspension.
